Is the USA on the Way to Becoming Socialist?
The Great Transformation of the Democrat Party to Socialism has exploded before our eyes.
By John Shoemaker June 25, 2026
Mamdani’s rise and early wins are shocking. As the Mayor of New York City, he is a Muslim and an avowed Socialist, and he has created a political Earthquake.
Democratic Party leaders are downplaying the events, even ignoring them at their own peril.
Is New York City an exception since 70% of the population of nearly 9 million is non-white and foreign-born, and with 1.5 million Muslims? It is also a strong liberal sanctuary.
Are we on a path where the Democratic National Party will fracture and become the new DSA or Democratic Socialists of America?
It is rattling the moderate democrats as they watch Blue cities going Dark Blue with governance principles that have been proven to be flawed, financially unsustainable, economically damaging, and a social calamity with ultra-liberal views on enforcing the rule of law.
Mamdani is riding a wave of Socialist/Marxist ideology and is getting early electoral wins, and the media is acting like a bullhorn with wonderment and gleeful attention. It is just another way to demonstrate opposition to anything President Trump does, regardless of whether his actions benefit Americans or even humanity.
Their singular focus is to hate Trump.
Complementing that is their hate of Israel and America. Nearly two-thirds of Democrats hate America, while 90% of Republicans love America. The level of hate expressed continuously by Democrats is profoundly disrespectful, hurtful, and destructive.
Do Americans want those who HATE AMERICA in Congress?
American Jews are now distancing themselves from Israel. The Socialists support Hamas and antisemitism, which has upended the thinking of Jews. We have seen the turmoil on college campuses and support for Hamas and the Palestinians. Many Jews, however, voted for Mamdani. Now the situation has gotten out of control, leaving the Jewish community bewildered and threatened.
Why is this happening?
Mamdani and others have promised “free stuff” at the expense of successful businesspeople and high-paid workers, to include free healthcare, buses and subways, city-owned grocery stores, and all sorts of welfare, all this and more, even as the city goes deeper in debt.
One must ask, “What success has socialism had in the past in every place where it has been tried or is in some form being practiced today?”
While history has many examples of the complete failure of Socialism, idealistic activists still cling to the idea of an easy life with government support from cradle to grave – all at the expense of big business and successful leaders. They abhor the American capitalist system and meritocracy since it is too hard. To generalize, they resist taking risks. They want someone to take care of them during their normally productive years. We have seen how this form of governance destroys individual initiative, resilience, self-discipline, and the individual pursuit of happiness.
They are takers, not givers or creators.
Today’s socialists, if they have any knowledge of history, still scoff at the past practices of government-run societies, as seen in the old Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc nations of the Cold War, as well as in recent examples in Cuba, Venezuela, Argentina, Nicaragua, and many other nations around the world. Even Israel has tried a kibbutz. In the U.S., hippies tried communes. Lots of excitement surrounded them at the beginning, but ultimately, they all failed because of human nature.
Look at what is happening to our socialist leaning neighbor in the North. Canada has been the lowest-performing nation of the top 50 countries for the past 50 years. You want a doctor? You will wait months. The massive influx of immigrants has forced a shortage of housing, high costs, fewer jobs, and less competency in the workforce, with unemployment relentlessly high.
These new Socialists say that we are going to do it differently.
While this writer won’t go into all the details as to why it fails, the downside is well known. For sure, forcing income redistribution will benefit many for a short time until you run out of other people’s money. Eventually, it results in all the common people having less economic success, less freedom, and less fulfilling lives, since they have less hope of positive change – all while being ruled by those who don’t have to follow the rules.
Even now, we see the exodus of high-income individuals and successful corporations from Blue cities/states to high-growth, low-tax Red states.
If this continues, Blue States will be in massive debt with no growth or economic malaise, restrictive regulations, high taxes, and social desperation. Red States will experience high economic growth, high numbers of start-up companies, high salaries, and low taxes, without massive regulation, rent control, and government ownership of companies.
Will it end up creating a war between Blue and Red States? (Ironical when compared to the Blue against the Grey in the US Civil War,)
Even today, with semi-Socialist countries in Western Europe and Canada, the evidence is clear. Yes, they have free stuff, they work less, they have less, but they seem happy with less of everything. If you don’t know better, one can settle for what is.
Many visitors from Europe are absolutely shocked at our highways, vehicles, grocery stores, and our culture – and especially, for example, that our buildings and homes have air conditioning.
This comes as the EU is struggling with many liberal-based decisions that have negatively impacted millions – electricity is high-priced, new start-ups are anomalies, green programs have failed, and open borders are wreaking havoc. Doing business in the EU has many problems that simply do not encourage growth.
A terrible situation in Cuba, run by Socialist-Communists, started by promising a new life where everyone shares equality in misery. Cuba can’t keep the lights on; its hospitals lack medicines, and I’m sure you have seen the condition of its buildings, cars, and infrastructure. It is now a broken country living on the dreams of Castro.
The DSA downside: hospital care varies dramatically, wait time to visit doctors is poor, start-up companies are few with virtually no IPO’s and employee stock ownership, innovation dwindles dramatically, EU economic growth has experienced a continuous decline and dropped far below that of the US, the social impact of migrants is crippling many aspects of EU social cohesion, cooperation, and assimilation. Crime has exploded in some of the countries, especially rape, theft, and violent protests.
Other points on the DSA Platform: government ownership of property, utilities, transportation, manufacturing, housing; high taxes on the wealthy (as they define it); rent control; less police; free education through college; free childcare; generally high taxes, especially wealth taxes. Muslims want to change/re-write the Constitution. Yes, it wants to move towards being a caliphate.
What have Muslims nations done to increase economic growth and peaceful societies? Well, it is true they have lots of riches from oil & gas, but if you add up all the GDP of all Arab countries and subtract oil & gas revenues, their combined GDP slightly exceeds that of Spain. The social strife in the Muslim world has been horrendous for centuries and continues to this day. This is no innovation.
Think about it: What have the Democrats proposed lately in the US? All they talk about is Trump Hate. Israel has committed genocide. ICE needs to be terminated. Illegal aliens, LGBTQxyz and Transexual super minorities need to be protected and supported – even at the expense of US citizens. The teacher’s union spends tens of millions on political campaigns while the education performance of our children declines. Also, massive fraud, misusing NGOs, is accepted, if not approved.
None of this is proactive to economic growth. Most Democrats have no clue what it takes to make money in jobs that create something other than government paperwork and being a bureaucrat. Look at their leadership: Harris, Waltz, Newsom, AOC, Schumer, Jeffries, Pelosi, Schiff, Swalwell, Nadler, Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Eliz Warren, Plessey, Blumenthal, Markey, and so many more, they all have one thing in common: As life-long politicians, none of them ever succeeded in business or had a job in a commercial business except maybe a bartender or college job, unless they were trust babies.
Why is it that people want to LEAVE Muslim countries? Socialist countries? Communist countries? Most know the years of the Iron Curtain. But today, we have a new Iron Curtain, now it is the Islamic Curtain, where you must convert to Islam, or die, according to the radicals, who are not a noisy few. Count them in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Europe. They do not assimilate into Western societies; they instead want to completely change their cultures and implement Islamic ideals and Sharia Law. To do that, promising Socialist ideals and all the free stuff is the bait that traps entire societies.
For America, it stands on the precipice of fundamental change. Either continue with the incredible results of Capitalism or fall to the lure of a flawed Socialist system.
Just look at where we stand today:
· After the Biden years, the US is positioned for major annual growth as high as 4-5% GDP.
· The Dow Stocks were at about 33,000 five years ago. Today, the Dow exceeds 52,000. The NASDAQ was about 13,000 five years ago and is now over 26,000. American 401K’s have never been higher.
· We have fewer Federal Government workers and low unemployment, good wage growth, and inflation is under control, domestic manufacturing is growing, foreign investment in the US has never been higher, and high labor participation. Trump will now focus on lowering inflation, oil prices, taxes, regulations, and housing costs.
· Red States have or are trying to end State Income Tax and reduce intrusive regulations. Blue States are raising all kinds of taxes to pay for free stuff that is NOT free.
· Innovation is outstanding. Given our business model with employee stock options, IPOs are doing well. The USA continues to innovate more than all other countries of the world COMBINED. Yes, we invented the light bulb, electricity delivered to homes, the television, airplanes, radar, new military weapons, atomic energy, farming techniques, and more. Without the US, the recent critical inventions of the Cell Phone and PC, Quantum Computing, Computer chip design, Cloud computing, and Data Centers, a myriad of technologies from Robots to Artificial Intelligence are absolute game changers. Such innovation does not happen in Socialist countries, with very few exceptions.
· We experience turmoil when horse-drawn buggies were replaced by automobiles. Imagine an IPO that creates a trillion dollars at its opening. Elon Musk, the creative genius of an immigrant seeking opportunity, has proven how to take risks, work hard, pursue new ideas, and build blockbuster companies. Yes, he is now wealthy on an unimaginable scale, but he took grave risks while creating a half-dozen companies, thousands of jobs, and dozens of millionaires, affecting sectors ranging from healthcare and energy to rocketry and more, all while delivering unimaginable results and paying the most in taxes of all Americans.
America remains the one country that most people in the world admire and/or want to visit or migrate to, as proven when we insanely opened our borders to everyone. No other country allows this, and the result was a massive surge during Biden’s four years, with over 12 million migrants, some estimates reaching 20 million.
Our Constitutional Republic, supported by Capitalism, Private Property Ownership, and Meritocracy, is the basis for creating the wealthiest country the world has ever known.
Humanity has never had such personal freedom, enforced rules of law, representation in government, and innovative business accomplishments.
Tossing out our Constitution for Socialism is nothing less than national suicide.
