Blog #256 Wind is Broken in the Vineyard…$800 Million in the Wind.

Good morning to everyone in Massachusetts who's tired of seeing billions poured into offshore wind and never seeing lower energy rates.

Vineyard Wind just sued GE Renewables on Wednesday. They're saying GE plans to walk away from the 4.5 billion dollar offshore wind project by April 28, right in the critical final stage of bringing it fully online.

If GE exits, Vineyard Wind warns the project will likely fail, leaving the wind farm stranded.

At the center of the dispute, GE says Vineyard Wind owes them 300 million in unpaid claims. Vineyard Wind says GE owes them 800 million from years of delays and that catastrophic 2024 blade failure.

This is exactly the kind of expensive drama we keep seeing with these green energy megaprojects that our ratepayers are ultimately on the hook for.

How much more are we supposed to subsidize before Beacon Hill admits these things aren't delivering like they promised?

Vineyard Wind is now in peril after the firm filed a lawsuit against the wind farm’s contractor, GE Vernova, which is threatening to back out of the massive project over a dispute about costs.

GE Vernova claims it is owed $300 million in payments, while Vineyard Wind says they don’t owe any money.

If the blade manufacturer walks out now, it raises the possibility that we’ll be seeing 15 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard a “dormant wind farm graveyard,” according to Vineyard Wind.
