Trump’s Federal Layoffs Just Revealed The Truth Democrats Can’t Hide
The Biden-Harris administration left behind an economic nightmare.
President Trump began cleaning house in January.
And now Trump's federal layoffs have just revealed a truth Democrats can't hide.
Private Sector Carried The Economy While Government Payrolls Shrank
The Department of Labor finally released job numbers that Democrats wanted buried forever.
After a 43-day government shutdown delayed the reports, Americans learned what actually happened to the economy in October and November while Trump was cutting bloated federal payrolls.
The private sector added 52,000 jobs in October and 69,000 in November even as federal employment dropped by 162,000 and 6,000 respectively.¹
Federal payrolls have shrunk by 271,000 since January when Trump took office and began his promise to drain the swamp.
Those 162,000 federal workers who left in October weren't fired on the spot.
They had accepted deferred resignation deals earlier in the year as part of Trump's Department of Government Efficiency initiative.
The agreement allowed about 75,000 federal employees to resign with pay and benefits through September, giving them time to find private sector work while trimming the bureaucratic fat.²
Democrats and their media allies predicted economic catastrophe from Trump's DOGE cuts.
They said laying off government workers would tank the economy and send unemployment soaring.
The opposite happened.
The unemployment rate did tick up to 4.6 percent in November, but that's because more Americans entered the workforce looking for jobs rather than sitting at home collecting government checks.³
The labor force participation rate rose, proving that Trump's policies are bringing people back into productive work.
DOGE Exposed Decades Of Government Waste
Critics screamed that Elon Musk and Trump's efficiency team would destroy essential government services.
Instead, DOGE found hundreds of billions in fraud, waste, and outright theft of taxpayer money.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin discovered Biden officials literally tried to hide money from the incoming Trump administration.
They "parked" tax dollars at outside financial institutions in a scheme Zeldin called "the first of its kind in EPA history" that was "purposely designed to obligate all the money in a rush job with reduced oversight."⁴
The Department of Defense was spending $1.9 million for "holistic DEI transformation" in the Air Force while our military readiness declined.
Another $6 million went to the University of Montana to "strengthen American democracy by bridging divides."⁵
That's code for left-wing indoctrination programs funded by hardworking taxpayers.
Senator Joni Ernst exposed USAID spending that would make your blood boil.
American tax dollars were funding gender studies programs in Pakistan and teaching Ethiopians how to use social media while our own veterans slept on the streets.⁶
The Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration had to seek new lease agreements after DOGE canceled wasteful real estate contracts.
Some agencies are now bringing workers back because they realized they actually needed them, but that's proof DOGE forced bureaucrats to figure out who was essential and who was just collecting a paycheck.⁷
Trump's team terminated 13,440 contracts, 15,887 grants, and 264 leases according to DOGE's website.
Federal spending increased by 6 percent year-over-year during Trump's first months because mandatory spending on Social Security and Medicare continued while discretionary cuts took time to implement.⁸
But Trump's May 2025 budget proposal incorporated $163 billion in savings identified by DOGE, targeting a 22.6 percent reduction in non-defense discretionary spending.⁹
Democrats Built An Empire Of Useless Government Jobs
While federal employment contracted by 271,000 workers since January, private companies added jobs every month Trump has been in office.
The three-month average for private sector job creation sits at 75,000.¹⁰
Biden and the Democrats had turned the federal government into a jobs program for political cronies and DEI activists.
They hired hundreds of thousands of bureaucrats who did nothing but create red tape and stand in the way of American businesses trying to compete.
Trump exposed the con.
The federal government doesn't create prosperity by hiring more paper-pushers to write regulations that strangle the economy.
Real jobs come from the private sector where companies have to actually produce value or go out of business.
Federal workers who accepted the deferred resignation program are starting to find out what it's like to work in the real economy where your paycheck depends on results, not political connections.
The Partnership for Public Service reported just under 200,000 federal workers had already left their jobs by August 2025.¹¹
Democrats claimed this would crash the economy.
Instead, the private sector was evidently adding a few jobs as Trump and Musk started to clean out the bureaucratic swamp.
Trump promised to Make America Great Again by draining the swamp and cutting government waste.
It’s time to turn that dial up some.
